چکیده

In this paper, joint physical-MAC layer optimization in OFDM systems using adaptive modulation and subcarrier allocation is investigated based on utility theory. Since utility qualifies the level of users’ satisfaction derived from the radio resources they occupy, it is ideal for a network optimization metric. We formulate cross-layer optimization problem as one that maximizes the sum of the utilities over all active users through rate adaptation and dynamic subcarrier allocation with the limited radio resource and time-varying wireless channel constraints. Two effective subcarrier allocation algorithms with low complexity are proposed to solve the constrained optimization problem. Simulation results demonstrate the significant improvement of utilitybased cross-layer optimization in OFDM.

Smart Random Channel Access in OFDM Systems by Joint Signal Processing and Packet Scheduling

Wireless LAN and many other wireless communication systems have applied OFDM to mitigate multipath. Considering that the requirement of random access may reduce performance due to contentions, in this paper we show that OFDM techniques can assist random access contention resolution. A method is proposed with both OFDMbased physical layer signal processing and MAC layer packet scheduling. It is ...

Cross-layer Packet-dependant OFDM Scheduling Based on Proportional Fairness

This paper assumes each user has more than one queue, derives a new packet-dependant proportional fairness power allocation pattern based on the sum of weight capacity and the packet’s priority in users’ queues, and proposes 4 new cross-layer packet-dependant OFDM scheduling schemes based on proportional fairness for heterogeneous classes of traffic. Scenario 1, scenario 2 and scenario 3 lead r...

A generic MAC-PHY Interface for supporting Multi-User Dynamic OFDM implementations on Software Defined Radios

Multi-user Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) currently is of great interest to telecommunication researchers all over the world. Independently, significant research is being done on the OFDM physical layer (PHY), as well as on resource optimization and other medium access control layer (MAC) related issues. The MAC and PHY communities, however, develop their solutions mostly in ...
